Eure Heiligkeit, geliebter Heiliger Vater!
Wir, als Mitglieder des Kirchenvolkes von Berlin, senden herzliche Grüße im Heiligen Geist und danken Euch für Euren aufopferungs- und liebevollen Dienst.
Heiliger Vater! Heute brauchen wir Eure Hilfe in einem dringenden und wichtigen Anliegen für das gläubige und wache Volk Gottes in Berlin und Deutschland.
Im Jahr 1936 gründete der selige Märtyrer Bernhard Lichtenberg das Anbetungs-kloster St. Gabriel. Den Anbetungsdienst versahen in vorbildlicher Weise die Schwestern der Kongregation der Dienerinnen des Heiligen Geistes von der ewigen Anbetung („Rosa Schwestern“). Das Kloster, das ein Leuchtturm in dieser Stadt war, wurde aus der ganzen Stadt mitgetragen, viele haben mit den Schwestern den Eucharistischen Herrn angebetet, das Kloster unterstützt und versorgt.
Anfang 2022 haben die Schwestern auf Anordnung der deutschen Ordensleitung das Kloster verlassen und an ein säkulare Schule übergeben. Als Grund für die Entscheidung wurde der Mangel an Berufungen angegeben. Doch dieses Problem wird sich durch stillen Rückzug nur vergrößern. Wir wollen den entgegengesetzten Weg beschreiten und mehr beten, mehr dienen: Viele Gruppen, Verbände und Laien wollen helfen. Ordensfrauen aus Afrika und Eurer Heimat Lateinamerika – so z.B. die Dienerinnen des Herrn und der Jungfrau von Matará sowie franziskanische Gemeinschaften – stehen bereit, das Kloster mit Leben zu erfüllen.
Ausgehend von dem, was die eng mit Berlin verbundene Heilige Theresa von Kalkutta uns beigebracht hat – dass die eucharistische Anbetung den Dienst an den Ärmsten der Armen mit sich bringt – haben wir alternative, wirtschaftlich abgesicherte Konzepte entwickelt, die es ermöglichen, das Kloster geistlich weiterzuführen, Ordensgemeinschaften unterzubringen und dort soziale Arbeit zu verrichten. Auch eine Rückkehr der Rosa Schwestern wäre dann nicht ausgeschlossen.
Im Kern wollen wir die Anbetung und die Verehrung der Muttergottes mit der Sorge um die Benachteiligten, der Ärmsten der Armen und damit einer neuen Schöpfungsarbeit für Kunst und Wirtschaft verbinden. Über 1.000 Menschen unterstützen uns und eine entsprechende Petition.
Wir beten auf Knien, und unsere Hoffnung, dass Kloster und Kirche wieder christlich belebt werden, ist ungebrochen. Wir haben zwei Novenen zum seligen Bernhard Lichtenberg gebetet, die jedes Mal einen Aufschub säkularer Nutzungspläne nach sich gezogen haben. Wir glauben fest: der Heilige Geist weht, wo Er will. Und so regt sich dieser Geist im Volk von allein.
Heiliger Vater! Unsere Stadt Berlin ist eine Heilige Stadt, eine Stadt der Märtyrer, Natürlich ist hier nichts einfach oder „selbstverständlich“ – schon gar nicht „selbstverständlich katholisch“. Deswegen ist die Kirche hier an der Basis auch lebendig, barmherzig und aufrichtig. Wir wollen nicht aufgeben. Wir warten auf ein Signal von Euch! Es ist möglich!
Denn auch in anderen wichtigen Fällen in unserer Stadt war es schon „5 nach 12“, als die Rettung kam. Sowohl im Fall der Kirche St. Afra, als auch im Exerzitienzentrum St. Clemens waren historische Gottesdienstorte bereits erloschen und zur säkularen Verwendung preisgegeben, bevor apostolische Initiativen aus dem Volk die Orte wieder Gott und den Menschen öffnen konnten. Im Fall von St. Afra war es genau wie bei nun bei St. Gabriel: Erst ein Veto aus dem Vatikan konnte einen vorgesehenen Verkauf stoppen. Heutzutage gehören beide Orte zu den lebendigsten Kirchen Berlins.
Heiliger Vater! Hört uns an. Wir haben stets das Gespräch mit allen Beteiligten gesucht. Wir werden jeden Tag für Sie beten und beginnen am 20. Juni eine weitere Novene – diese zu Ehren des Heiligen Petrus, Eures Vorgängers. Auf diesen Fels ist unsere Hoffnung gebaut.

Your Holiness, beloved Holy Father!
We, as members of the Church People of Berlin, send warm greetings in the Holy Spirit and thank you for your self-sacrificing and loving service.
Holy Father! Today we need your helping an urgent and important concern for the faithful and alert people of God in Berlin and Germany.
In 1936, the Blessed Martyr Bernhard Lichtenberg founded the Adoration Monastery of St. Gabriel. The Sisters of the Congregation of the Servants of the Holy Spirit of Eternal Adoration (“Pink Sisters”) they provided the service of adoration in an exemplary manner. The monastery, which was a lighthouse in this city, was supported from all over the city, many worshipped the Emirati Lord with the sisters, supported and cared for the monastery.
At the beginning of 2022, the sisters left the monastery by order of their German Superiors and handed it over to a secular school company, which essentially wants to make a profit with refugees. The reason given for the decision was the lack of vocations. But this problem will only increase through silent retreat. We want to follow the opposite path and pray more, serve more: many groups, associations and lay people want to help. Religious Women from Africa and your homeland Latin America – for example. the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará, as well as Franciscan communities – are ready to come and fill the monastery with life.
Based on what Saint Theresa of Calcutta, who is closely associated with Berlin, taught us – that Eucharistic adoration brings S3ervice for the poorest of the poo – we have developed alternative, economically secure concepts that make it possible to continue the monastery spiritually, to accommodate religious communities and to carry out social work there. A return of the Rosa Sisters would then not be ruled out.
In essence, we want to combine the adoration and veneration of Our Lady with the help for the disadvantaged, and hence create a new work of creation for art and economy. More than 1,000 people support us and a corresponding petition.
We pray on our knees, and our hope that the monastery and church will be revived in a Christian way is unbroken. We prayed two novenas to Blessed Bernhard Lichtenberg, each of which led to a postponement of secular usage plans. We firmly believe that the Holy Spirit blows wherever He wills. And so, this spirit stirs in the people by itself.
Holy Father! Our city of Berlin is a holy city, a city of martyrs, of course nothing here is easy or “self-evident” – certainly not “self-evident Catholic”. That is why the Church here at the grassroots level is also alive, merciful and sincere. We don’t want to give up. We are waiting for a signal from you! It’s possible!
Because also in other important cases in our city it was already “5 to 12” when the rescue came. Both in the case of the Church of St. Afra and in the Retreat Center of St. Clement, historical places of worship had already been extinguished and abandoned for secular use, before apostolic initiatives from the people could reopen the places to God and to man. In the case of St. Afra, it was exactly the same as with St. Gabriel: Only a veto from the Vatican could stop a planned sale. Today, both places are among the liveliest churches in Berlin.
Holy Father! Listen to us. We have always sought dialogue with all those involved. We will pray for you every day and on June 20 we will begin another novena in honor of Saint Peter, your Predecessor. Our hope is built on this rock.
